Barbara Michalik

Barbara Michalik is a graduate of the Social Service Worker-Gerontology program at Seneca College, with a Bachelor of Arts-Sociology Degree from York University.  Barbara is the Director of Community and Academic Partnerships at the Rekai Centres (Sherbourne Place and Wellesley Central Place LTC) where she chairs numerous committees and is active on the Palliative Care & End of Life with the LHIN-PAC, George Brown College SSW & Nursing Advisory and Senior Pride Network committees, focusing this year on Academic partnership innovation, Dementia Care – Butterfly concept and the Rainbow unit – inclusivity initiative. Barbara has developed intergenerational programs in partnership with Rose Avenue Child Care Centre, TCDSB Our Lady of Lourdes and TDSB Parenting and Family Literacy Programs East (Sprucecourt Public School) and she looks forward to hosting “Intergenerational Day Canada” events at the Rekai Centres. We are looking to expand our intergenerational programs with Branksome Hall Private School, Jarvis Collegiate, St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School. She has also been a part-time Faculty Advisor and Field Liaison Technologist in the Activation/ Gerontology Program at George Brown College and continues to lecture at various academic affiliates. Barbara looks forward to continuing to share her experiences as a TIGP Board of Director.
