Mary Card

Mary Card is a graduate of both Queen’s University and the University of Toronto. Mary’s career as a Mathematics Teacher for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), from 1970 to 2015, included 40 years at Monarch Park Collegiate (MPC) and five years at Riverdale Collegiate Institute (RCI) where she was the Curriculum Leader: Mathematics/Numeracy. Mary has received numerous awards and honours, throughout her teaching career, including a 2003-2004 Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence (Certificate of Achievement), the 2003 Queen’s University Alumni Achievement Award, a 2003 District 12 OSSTF Status of Women Award – Outstanding Female Teacher-Impact on Students, and Ontario Volunteer Service Awards for the years 2010 and 2017. Mary’s long history of involvement in extracurricular activities include: her role as the staff advisor for both the TIGP Seniors in Cyberspace program (2001 to 2010) and the Riverdale Intergenerational Club (2011 to 2015). Mary has worked on writing projects for the TDSB and she is a published Mathematics Author for McGraw-Hill Ryerson.  As an advocate of “lifelong learning” Mary is currently an Associate Teacher for the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) administered by TVO, Ontario’s designated provider of distance education and an Occasional Teacher for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Mary continues to volunteer her time in the community. She is a Director of the Toronto Educators Association for Mathematics (TEAMS) Chapter of the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME), President of the Fred Hammond, Chapter 73, Quarter Century Wireless Association, and she has volunteered for the Polo for Palliative Care Fundraising Events. Mary has been a member of the TIGP Board of Directors since June of 2005, serving as the President from 2006 to 2011 and from 2016 to 2018, and as the Past President from 2011 to 2013.
